In view of the development trend of kindergartens, early childhood education must continue to pursue resilience and excellence. To provide quality education services, the kindergarten has established key development goals based on the school’s situation as well as children's abilities, interests and needs, ensuring the school’s continuous development and enhancing the effectiveness of learning and teaching. This academic year, the kindergarten has implemented two key development projects, namely “children’s establishment of a positive attitude towards life and positive thinking through positive education” and “full implementation of learning through play and promotion of whole-child development”. The details of the two development projects are as follows:

(1) Children’s establishment of a positive attitude towards life and positive thinking through positive education

The kindergarten focuses on nurturing children’s moral development and incorporates moral education elements into daily learning activities, which has been widely recognized by parents. The "Kindergarten Education Curriculum Guide (2017)" proposes the importance of strengthening the promotion of moral education. The kindergarten also believes that in response to the social circumstances in recent years, reinforcing children's positive attitude towards life and positive thinking is extremely important for their physical and mental development. Therefore, the kindergarten has joined Po Leung Kuk's positive project "living life to the fullest” this year. It is hoped that through cooperation with the project team and a series of activities, the kindergarten could build a positive school environment to help children establish a positive attitude towards life, positive thinking and positive values.

(2) Full implementation of learning through play and promotion of children’s whole-child development

Children are born to love playing, which is an effective strategy to promote physical and mental development of children. The "Kindergarten Education Curriculum Guide (2017)" emphasizes that young children should learn through play, and that kindergarten curriculum should focus on whole-child development. In view of this, the kindergarten joined Education Bureau's "Quality Education Fund Theme Networks - Tertiary Institutes Play-Learn-Grow in Hong Kong Kindergartens” the year before. Through collaboration with supporting staff, and teaching and research, the “learning through play” strategies and skills designed and led by the teachers have been strengthened, enhancing children’s learning effectiveness and fostering whole-child development. Favorable results were seen from the trial in K3 classes the year before, so the plan was fully implement across K1, K2 and K3 classes last year. However, due to class suspension during the pandemic, it could only be implemented to a limited extent last year. Since the plan failed to achieve the expected goals, it will be continued this year. We will be fully implementing learning through play in K1, K2 and K3 classes, fostering whole-child development.
