Introduction

To enable children with special needs to receive the necessary training early in the prime training period, the Kuk received funding from Social Welfare Department to launch a Pilot Scheme on On-site Pre-school Rehabilitation Services (Pilot Scheme) since December 2015. The services have regularized in October 2018. Under the Pilot Scheme, multi-disciplinary service teams offer on-site services to participating kindergartens (KGs) and Kindergarten-cum-Child care centres (KG-cum-CCCs) for children who are on the waiting list for SWD-subvented pre-school rehabilitation services; The Pilot Scheme provides professional advice for kindergarten teachers/ child care workers to assist them in working with children with special needs; The Pilot Scheme also supports parents on fostering positive attitude and providing effective skills in raising their children with special needs.


Service Natures
For children with special needs:
- On-site individual/ group rehabilitation training; and training at centres equipped with rehabilitation facilities.

For teachers/ child care workers:
- On-site professional consultation services and demonstration, talks/ workshops/ seminars, etc.

For parents/ carers:
- Talks/ workshops/ seminars.


Service Characteristics
- Provide outreaching service to the participating KGs or KG-cum-CCCs.

- The professional team comprised of Social workers, Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Clinical/Educational Psychologists and Special Child Care Workers. The team works together and endeavours to provide a wide spectrum of child care services, targeted treatment programmes for children with special needs.

- Training is also provided at Early Education and Training Centre (EETC) or centres with relevant facilities to meet the training needs of children.


Eligibility
- Children with mild disabilities aged below 6 attending the participating KGs or KG-cum-CCCs, and on the waiting list of Social Welfare Department (SWD)’s central referral system are given priority.

- Teachers/ child care workers and parents/caregivers of children.


Fee
No fee is charged.


Application Procedures
- Referrals to the project teams can be made through the KGs or KG-cum-CCCs participating in the Pilot Scheme.
- Parents/ carers complete the application form and hand in to the KGs or KG-cum-CCCs
